- Once you’ve grasped these foundational principles, we’ll transition into the captivating world of equine art with Portraying Horses in Motion with Oil Paints. It follows the same premise as Simplify to Amplify. Breaking down the subject matter into simple shapes. Horses can be difficult to portray while moving because of their complicated anatomy. However, when you train yourself to simplify the form, you can portray the horse successfully in motion. I took three different horse reference photos in this course and simplified them. All three pieces turned out differently, but all started with simplification

Hey! I am Peggy
I knew I wanted to be an artist even before I understood what an artist was.
I love to teach! I have always thought that there have been far too many secrets kept from up-and-coming artists. I want to share with artists the tricks I have learned over the years, tricks that will allow you to hone your skills and become a confident artist.
By the age of two, I was drawing recognizable subjects, and my parents were extremely supportive, encouraging me all along. I attended Colorado State University and received a BFA in Illustration. I had planned on becoming a professional illustrator, but life got busy after I married an Equine Veterinarian, my second love. Horses became my full-time job, as I focused on breeding, training, and selling competitive dressage sport horses. Raising two children and managing the farm alongside my husband’s large veterinary practice kept me away from art for a long time.
After our youngest graduated from college, I decided to pick up a brush again just for fun. And it was FUN! I dove in deep; it wasn’t long before I considered finding gallery representation. Having galleries handle the selling gave me more freedom to paint. In 2016, my husband and I sold the farm and moved to the West Elk Mountains in Southwestern Colorado, a ranching and farming community that provides endless inspiration for my paintings.
